Academics
Learn in the classroom and through mentorship with local STEM businesses.
Rigorous Academic Foundations
To ensure students are well-grounded academically, AAST will work with students to build a rigorous foundational knowledge in grades 6-10, preparing them for attaining high academic performance in the critical later high school years. Using an interdisciplinary approach, engineering design will be an integral part of the STEM curriculum that will fuse Science, Mathematics, and Technology courses.
Beginning in the middle school years, students will participate in mentorships (as explained above) that help them identify and begin to pursue career and/or college interests.
By the end of 10th grade, students will have a career or post-secondary plan in place and may be enrolled in Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) or job shadowing.

Curriculum
STEM
AAST will implement an interdisciplinary and engineering design-based STEM courses throughout variety of tools, hardware, software, and other resources will be utilized to design the STEM program at AAST. Science lab facilities will be a priority as the school facility is developed. The following are indicative of the inquiry-based STEM selections made to date.
- STEM Fuse includes STEM integration, computer programming and coding. Using topic-driven challenges, coding game activities, and 3D modeling projects, students will experience howSTEM is tied to the content they're learning in the classroom.
- Gizmos- It puts students in the role of STEM professionals to solve real-world problems, interactive activities online, including case studies. The students form and test ideas to find solutions.
-
Inspire Science (6-12 Integrated Science)- Inspire science brings science off of the page and beyond the four walls of the classroom-into the exciting world in which we live with a wealth of online and offline resources. It goes much further as it dives deep into the incredible natural phenomena all around us to spark student's imagination and inspire success.
- Stem builders @ AIM Academy-stem Builder's mission is to ignite passion and enthusiasm for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) in every student. They provide education by bringing STEM to life in a fun interactive way.
Mathematics
Mathematics is the language of STEM. The goal of math instruction at AAST will be to provide foundational and working/applicable knowledge for everyday life and to develop a solid platform for higher order learning. AAST will utilize a sequential, research-based mathematics curriculum. The following are indicative of the inquiry-based STEM selections made to date.

STEM Fuse includes STEM integration, computer programming and coding. Using topic-driven challenges, coding game activities, and 3D modeling projects, students will experience howSTEM is tied to the content they're learning in the classroom.
Desmos- is a free online graphing calculator designed for 6-8 graders that lets students explore math in a new and exciting ways. Desmos helps every student learn math and love learning it. it has graph functions, plot tables of data, equations, exploring transformation, etc. Teachers can assign activities and games to their students and check their progress from their page.
Gismos- Gizmos is the world's largest online interactive simulation for math and science for all grades. Gizmos give students something to graph, measure and compare. - Big Ideas- Big ideas Math by Ron Larson and Laurie Boswell is universally designed for learning to create fun and hands-on activities for students. It targets students and helps them focus, and develop a growth mindset.
Literacy
AAST recognizes that reading is critical to students’ overall success. The following are indicative of the inquiry-based STEM selections made to date.
- Fast ForWord by Scientific Learning- fast forward helps students who are struggling readers to achieve their learning goals and potential. It targets reading skills of vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and comprehension.
- Read to Achieve- Is tailored to the more complex forms of literacy required in middle and high school, Read to Achieve is the first reading program to teach portable comprehensive strategies that students carry into their content area classes.
-
Achieve3000 (digital curriculum)- is designed for effective and deeper learning to students across ELA, Science, Social studies. It features robust, standards-aligned content, embedded assessments, and dynamic interactive tools for educators.
